The typical aging patient’s baseline health state can be complicated by comorbid conditions and physiologic changes. Polypharmacy, physical, sensory, and cognitive impairments will make oral health self-care and patient education/communications challenging. Managing this group of patients not only requires changes in daily dental practice but also requires systematic changes in the healthcare model to cope with this silver tsunami. The presentation will highlight possible strategies to ensure our healthcare system remains sustainable and able to meet with this ever-growing demand.
- To understand trends in population ageing
- To understand oral disease burden for older adults
- To integrate prevention and treatment of oral diseases by transforming the model of care based on person-centered approach
