Longevity is good news only when it is accompanied by good health. Even though we have been aware of the links between general and oral health, the nature of these interactions is complex. Recognising risk factors for dental conditions, such as root caries and erosion, is the essential first step in managing these conditions. The prevalence of these conditions increases with age. Their effects on the dentition are cumulative over time and could be accelerated with polypharmacy and the changing oral physiology. This lecture aims to discuss the importance of life style on the management of the above conditions.
- To recognise the risk factors in dental caries, erosion and hypersensitivity
- To summarise their effects on oral health
- To plan effective preventive programmes
