Prof. Axel Spahr Dr. med. dent. habil., FIDC, FITI, MRACDS (Perio)
Prof. Spahr is Head of the Discipline of Restorative and Reconstructive Dentistry and the Subject Area Periodontics at the University of Sydney.
Axel is the former Head of Periodontics at the University of Ulm in Germany and has worked at various international universities and research facilities. He has additional training in microbiology, molecular biology, extensive experience in basic science research, animal research and clinical research. Prof. Spahr’s research interest includes periodontal regeneration, bone regeneration, periodontitis and systemic diseases, antimicrobial therapy as well as dental implants and peri-implant diseases. He has led large externally funded research projects and is collaborating with leading international research groups and companies in the field of periodontology, implantology and bone regeneration. He is author of numerous publications in international peer-reviewed dental and medical journals, book chapters and has presented his work at professional conferences worldwide. Prof. Spahr is a board registered periodontal specialist, he works part-time in an established specialist periodontal and implant practice in Sydney and is the past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR).
Dr. Fadi Yassmin, B.D.S (Syd Uni) MSc Ae Dent (Kings College), MFGDP (UK)
Dr. Yassmin graduated from Sydney University in 1993, his immediate interest in orthodontics and early interceptive orthopeadics in children paved the way for his passion in multidisciplinary treatment. When opening Broadway Dental Centre as a Sydney dentist, he knew that he needed to stay up to date with the latest developments within the profession, to best serve his patients visiting the practice.
Dr Yassmin established his practice in 1998 and has provided a boutique environment that not only remains state-of-the-art in all technology, treatments and oral solutions, but provides each patient with a comfortable and relaxing experience.
His interest and experience in implant dentistry spans over 20 years. His accreditation and training has come from numerous institutions and world-class clinicians. He completed the gIDE programme in Implantology from UCLA in 2010 and has gone on to build one of the only purpose-built general anaesthetic facilities for the All on 4 Clinic.
He is an accomplished spokesperson on a number of dental health issues. Often called upon to speak at various functions and as a spokesperson for a number of media outlets.
Dr. Yassmin, is highly trained and skilled in all facets of dentistry; with particular interest in cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, makeovers and dental implants.
Mitsuhiro Tsukiboshi, DDS, PhD
Dr. Tsukiboshi is a graduate of Osaka University School of Dentistry in 1976. He earned a PhD in dental materials from Kyoto University in 1980 and has been engaged in private practice since 1981. Dr. Tsukiboshi’s interest in dental traumatology and autotransplantation has led to extensive clinical involvement, course presentations and publications. Dr. Tsukiboshi has lectured extensively on dental trauma and autotransplantation; he has authored many articles and two textbooks, one on dental trauma in 1998 and one on autotransplantation in 2000. The books have been published in several languages, including English. Dr. Tsukiboshi is a visiting lecturer at Osaka University and Loma Linda University since 1998 and is the President of the International Association of Dental Traumatology in 2009 and 2010.
Dr. Tsukiboshi is certified as an adjunctive assistant professor of Western university in USA in 2012 and a clinical professor of the dental school of Tohoku University from 2015-2018.
Dr. Mohamed Hassanien
Mohamed Hassanien graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dentistry from Misr University for Science & Technology in Egypt in 2002. He graduated with a Master of Science degree in Fixed Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry – Cairo University in 2008. Later in 2011, he completed his PHD degree in Fixed Prosthodontics from Cairo University.
Dr Hassanien established the CAD CAM department in faculty of dentistry in Misr International University (MIU) in Cairo in 2018 both for CAD CAM chairside and lab side workflow, where undergraduate students and post graduate students are doing their research work and faculty requirement is under his team supervision. Each year he spends a considerable amount of time helping postgraduate students doing their research work on CAD CAM workflow and evaluating ceramic restorations. He became an ISCD Certified Trainer in 2011, until this present time. He has been a CEREC user for 10 years, offering patients all ceramic, high esthetic restorations fabricated and delivered at the same appointment.
Prof. Emer. Shimon Friedman, D.M.D.
Dr. Shimon Friedman is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He received the D.M.D. degree (1975) and endodontics certificate (1983) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel, where he had taught for 17 years. He is board-certified in endodontics in Israel and had served as Chairman of the Israel Endodontic Society from 1985 to 1988.
In 1992, Prof. Friedman was appointed Head of Endodontics in Toronto, a position he had held for 20 years. In 1993 he established Canada’s first graduate Endodontics program and had directed it for 22 years. Under his leadership, the M.Sc. Endodontics Program at the University of Toronto has gained international recognition for its excellence.
Prof. Friedman has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters and research abstracts, presented over 330 international lectures, and served on the editorial boards of major endodontic journals.
Among his multiple awards, the most prestigious include the 2008 Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists, for “significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology”, the 2013 W.W. Wood Award from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, for “excellence in dental education”, the 2014 Award of Distinction from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, the 2018 I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists, and the 2019 Life Membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Fraternity Tau Tau Chapter.
Dr. Thuan Dao
Dr. Thuan Dao, Bachelor in French Literature, DMD, MSc (Neuroscience), Diploma in Prosthodontics, PhD (Biomedical Sciences), Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, is an Associate Professor Emerita at the Faculty of Dentistry University of Toronto. She is also cross-appointed to the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain. Dr. Dao is a Past President of the International Association for Dental Research Neuroscience Group, and Past Councilor in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Dao’s research and publications are focused on the pathophysiology and management of orofacial pain and sensory disorders. With her background in Neuroscience, her expertise in clinical trials, and her private practice oriented mainly towards pain management, Dr. Dao is well-positioned to bridge the gap between basic sciences and the clinics. Her ability to clearly explain complex science to clinicians and to relate it to everyday practice has met with wide acclaim. Dr. Dao has lectured extensively on pain-related topics, nationally and internationally, to both researchers and clinicians.
Prof. Peet van der Vyver
Peet van der Vyver qualified as a dentist BChD (Cum Laude) at the University of Pretoria in 1992. In 2007 he completed a Diploma in Endodontics (Cum Laude), Masters degree in Endodontics (Cum Laude) and a Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (Cum Laude). He also received several gold medals and awards for his academic distinction in many fields of of dentistry.
Dr van der Vyver, a private practitioner based in Sandton, Gauteng is a member of DASA, IADR, NOMADS, Study Group 1, Endodontic Society of South Africa, Dental Materials Group and the Academy for Microscope Enhanced Dentistry. He is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Odontology, School of Dentistry, University of Pretoria. From January 2008 he was appointed as an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Odontology. Peet is currently the President of the Endodontic Society of South Africa, Nomads and The South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD).
At the 1993, 2000 and 2001 IADR congresses he won the Hugo Retief Award for research in Dental Materials, and was the recipient of the 1996 and 1997 Floyd Memorial Award for the best scientific papers published in the Journal of the Dental Association of South Africa.
Dr van der Vyver has over 158 publications (26 in peer reviewed journals, 42 in popular scientific Journals, 8 in dental newsletters and 84 published research abstracts) to his credit. He has lectured extensively (375 lectures at 210 different congresses) and has organized and presented numerous dental courses, lectures and hands-on symposia at national and international congresses.
