Andrew Terry

Andrew Terry is a Senior Lecturer in Dental Hygiene at the newly established Faculty of Medicine, School of Dentistry. Since August 2015, he has worked with both the Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) programmes. He is primarily responsible for teaching Periodontal instrumentation and screening, as well as Oral Hygiene instruction for BOH1 and DMD1 & 2 students. He also supervises the clinical practice of final-year BOH3 students (Dental Hygiene stream) and oversees initial Clinical Periodontal treatment provided by DMD2 students. In 2017, he was appointed Unit of Study Co-coordinator for BOH1 students and is responsible for the appointment and education of Clinical Educators in the DMD1 & 2 Periodontics department.
Andrew continues to work in private practice each Friday, with a special interest in providing compassionate care for HIV and Hepatitis C positive patients. He lectures on this topic in the Bachelor of Oral Health programme and volunteers in oral hygiene education sessions for various HIV and Hepatitis C positive groups across diverse backgrounds and age groups, collaborating with organisations such as ACON and Positive Life NSW, Australia.
He has approximately 32 years of clinical experience, first qualifying as a Dental Therapist in Queensland, Australia, in 1993, and as a Dental Hygienist in London, UK, in 1998. He ratified his Australian and UK qualifications in Switzerland with the Swiss Red Cross, attaining the protected title of “Dip. Dental Hygienist of Higher Education”. Andrew completed his Masters in Education in 2019 and plans to enrol in a part-time PhD in 2026. He has practised in Townsville, Brisbane, London, and Zurich, and has been based in Sydney for the past 18 years.
