Yi Liu
China
Yi Liu, DDS, PhD, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Peking University School of Stomatology. He serves as Director of International Communications for the Chinese Stomatological Association and as a Councilor of the World Dental Federation (FDI).
With over 20 years of clinical experience as an orthodontist, Dr. Liu graduated from Beijing Medical University and earned his PhD in Orthodontics from Peking University School of Stomatology in 2002. This marked the beginning of his focused research on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ/TMD) from an orthodontic perspective, under the mentorship of Professor Minkui Fu. He has been a full-time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at Peking University School of Stomatology, serving as Vice Chair from 2010 to 2015. In 2008, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California. Since 2012, Dr. Liu has held the position of Director of International Communications at the Chinese Stomatological Association. He was a member of the FDI Standing Committee from 2019 to 2025 and currently serves as an FDI Councilor.
His primary research interests encompass the rehabilitation of patients with oral dysfunction, TMD management from an orthodontic viewpoint, early orthodontic intervention, and digital dentistry. He primarily teaches cephalometrics and occlusion to graduate students while frequently delivering lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Liu is a member of the Chinese Orthodontic Society, the Chinese TMD and Occlusion Society, and the Chinese Digital Dentistry Society. He has authored more than 80 publications and contributed to 15 textbooks.
